Riverine Landscapes as Ecosystem Sentinels

The 2027 conference theme, Riverine Landscapes as Ecosystem Sentinels, recognises that rivers provide powerful signals of environmental and social change. River systems reflect the combined influences of climate, catchment processes, ecological change and human activity, and therefore offer important insights into ecosystem condition, resilience, vulnerability and societal wellbeing.

We plan to run a four day programme with welcome and gala dinner.

Special Sessions

In keeping with our theme, we hope to present sessions around the following:

• Rivers as sentinels of environmental change;
• Historical variability and drivers of change;
• Social–ecological systems and traditional and local knowledge;
• Thresholds, tipping points and early-warning signals;
• Climate change and resilience;
• Environmental flows;
• River and floodplain restoration; and
• New conceptual approaches for understanding and managing riverine landscapes

PLUS General Sessions

Please get in touch to propose your Special Session ideas, as the Call for Abstracts will open soon.
